The Art of Fulfillment VS The Science of Achievement

THE ART OF FULFILLMENT VS THE SCIENCE OF ACHIEVEMENT

When you approach the question of “what do you really want?”, people typically base their response on one of two things:
  1. The Science of Achievement – The ability to turn a dream into a reality, to create something from nothing, to produce any result.
– OR –
  1. The Art of Fulfillment – The art of finding joy in the “process” and finding happiness in whatever life brings. It’s the power, as Tony Robbins says, to understand, appreciate, and enjoy our lives at the deepest level.
However, even though there are two ways to figure out what you want in life, many of us choose the former over the latter. You see, our culture is so “success-driven” that we often focus on achievement and forget to check if the achievement will even make us fulfilled.
Because at the end of the day life is all about feeling fulfilled and not about strictly achieving goals. The achievement of a goal is worthless if it doesn’t result in fulfillment and happiness.
Therefore, the science of achievement is pointless. It causes us to attain goals we don’t even want in search of a happiness we’ll never find. Instead, we need to focus on the art of fulfillment. We need to live our lives enjoying each and every day.
It’s the idea of being “process-oriented vs. goals-driven.” If you love the art of baking, for example, your life will be a success whether or not you become a Michelin-rated chef, because you love the process of becoming a better baker.
If you trust in the process and love the process, then the results will take care of themselves. This is the art of fulfillment and this is what you should focus on when you ask yourself, “what do I want to do with my life?”
